Parks and Countryside Manager, Bill

Bill, Parks and Countryside Manager
Herefordshire Council

"I've worked for local government for a number of years, previously as a leisure services manager. To do my current job I needed to be a full member of the Institute of Leisure and Amenity Management and have relevant leisure qualifications.

As Parks and Countryside Manager, I oversee the council's public open space, sports pitches, play areas, formal parks and gardens and country parks. It can sometimes be difficult ensuring that senior management (officers and members) understand what the job entails and how it operates on the ground. However, I enjoy the job as it is people-focused and I'm able to take a business-like approach to it.

In future I would like to further my career in land and property management."
